Ohio is traditionally Republican - Abraham Lincoln was from Ohio after all. Steel workers actually voted Kerry - if you see map he got the inner cities vote (Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus), lost by narrow margin in Cincinatti and got all of the steel counties (Madison, Athens, etc). He actually got 60% of independent vote - but that was not enough as registered Republicans beat registered Democrats by a wide margin. So Bush got elected by a bunch of potato farmers in the Western Ohio really...
